Gitmo

Check this article out.

Now, I realize you guys don't like polls. You made that quite evident a few days ago. But let me ask this:

Should the United States shut down Guantanamo Bay? I think they should. It is in my opinion that nothing of any substantive worth is taking place down there except the torture and imprisonment of individuals who are being denied basic human rights, up to and including the unalienable stuff our own nation was built on.

Now, the EU is stepping up to the plate, calling for Gitmo to be shut down as well. The U.N. has been very vocal in the past few months in their push for the prison's termination.

Whatcha got fo'ks?

It must be shut down. What message are we sending by sponsering a jail that the international community is frowning upon? How can other nations that violate human rights learn from us if we are no better than they?

Doesn't that article say that we are releasing prisoners who are being tortured by someone else? So how are we violating human rights?

Second, wasn't it European intelligence (specifically British and Russian) that told us that Saddam Hussein held WMDs and was inclined to use them? So we shouldn't have listened to them then, but we should listen to them now?

Now keep in mind that I'm a conservative which apparently means I only watch FOX news and that every other country is wrong and America is always right and anything you say against any American interest I will take as a direct attack on America and will assume that you are a traitor just like all your liberal friends...

No.
Because we won't give them a trial and we torture them.

I have no idea about whose intelligence we used before we went into Iraq, but I will not go so far as to say the American intelligence community couldn't support it's decision without "proof" all their own. I'm certain that we used intelligence from our allies coupled with our own, but we certainly didn't rely on anyone else's word alone. This isn't an Iraqi issue or even a war issue, it's a human rights issue. It's not just Britain and Russia asking us to listen to them, it's Europe and most of the U.N. The fact that injustice takes place at Guantanamo Bay is no surprise to the populous, we've known it for year, it was just a white elephant in the room no one wanted to look at.

I'm a pissy liberal who only readsd Reuters, CNN, Al-Jazeera and the Wall Street Journal who believes America is a nation of bigots and warmongers who hold the rest of the world to a myriad of double-standards. Go terrorists, Down with USA.....

E-Sarcasm's my favorite...
